Customer FAQ
What is T.O.TIX?
T.O.TIX is a funding initiative, totally owned and operated by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA). TAPA is a not-for-profit service organization representing over 180 theatre, dance, comedy and music companies in the city, as well as promoting performing arts overall. T.O.TIX primarily raises revenue for TAPA and TAPA member companies by selling same-day discount, week-of discount and full-price advance tickets, for shows in and outside of Toronto. All of these tickets are available at the T.O. TIX booth, and most are available online at www.totix.ca.
On each ticket sale, T.O.TIX adds a reasonable sliding scale service charge based on the cost of your ticket. Full-price tickets have a set service charge fee, which is also very reasonable. The revenue from these service charges goes to TAPA, while the base ticket revenue goes directly to the producing company.
All sales at T.O.TIX are in-person or online at www.totix.ca. T.O.TIX accepts payment by Visa, MasterCard and American Express online and Visa, Mastercard, Cash and Debit at our booth at Yonge-Dundas Square. All sales are final, and each show will have certain conditions, which should be reviewed before the purchase of tickets.
T.O.TIX is also an official ticket outlet for TicketKing and TicketMaster.
Where is T.O.TIX?
T.O.TIX is located directly on the south-east corner of Yonge and Dundas, in Yonge-Dundas Square. We are just across the street from the Toronto Eaton Centre and easily accessible by subway, via Dundas Subway Station. T.O. TIX is wheelchair accessible.
When is T.O.TIX open?
T.O.TIX is open Tuesday through Saturday from Noon to 6:30pm. Because many shows have pay-what-you-can performances on Sundays and usually have no performances on Mondays, T.O.TIX is closed on these two days. On Saturdays, T.O.TIX sells discount tickets in advance for Sunday and Monday performances.
When is your website, www.totix.ca, open?
The T.O. TIX website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. New shows generally go on sale at regular price or become available at a discounted price at 12noon, Tuesday through Saturday.
What is my T.O.TIX ticket? What do I get when I buy through T.O.TIX?
When buying tickets in person at T.O.TIX, you will be given a voucher which is used to get your ticket. Give the voucher to the box office of the theatre, and you will receive your tickets, similar to a will-call or “box-office pickup” situation.
T.O.TIX strongly suggests that you arrive 30 min. before the show to receive your tickets and get your seat, as many theatres do not allow latecomers into their auditoriums.
When buying online, you will be asked to print a receipt immediately following your purchase. This page is your online voucher, and is the easiest item to use as your ticket. Simply take the printout voucher, photo I.D. and the card with which you made payment, to the show’s box office 30 minutes before the show to claim your ticket. You should also receive e-mail confirmation, and if you lose your voucher, you may alternately take a copy of this e-mail with you.
Why am I paying a service charge?
T.O. TIX gives the base ticket price (discounted or full-price) back to the producer of the show and only keeps its service charge. This helps pay for staffing and administration. Remember that T.O. TIX is owned by TAPA, a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to be a supportive presence for theatre in Toronto. Your T.O. TIX purchase helps make that possible.
How do I find out about and purchase shows that T.O.TIX offers?
There are four ways to find out about shows that are available at T.O.TIX.
Online
The easiest is to go to www.totix.ca and see what we’re selling online. Please note that not all tickets are available on-line.
E-bulletin
The E-Bulletin gets sent out once or twice a week, with a listing of all or most of the shows available at regular price or at discount. Go to www.totix.ca, and follow the link on the right hand side of the page. Then, simply follow the instructions to sign up! If at first you don’t receive it, please check your junk mail, as it is always possible that our email address hasn’t made your safe list in your email account.
T.O. TIX Infoline
You can also call the T.O.TIX Infoline (416-536-6468 ×40), to receive a recorded message listing the shows that are on sale. This is a dedicated phone line that lists all the shows for which we are discount and full-price tickets for that day, for the rest of the week and also in advance. If time permits, this message is further updated to reflect any new productions that are released for sale later that same day. Patrons should note, however, that the Infoline cannot always be updated if a show sells out or if new shows are added. This message is recorded by 12 noon, Tuesday to Saturday.
In-Person
The last option is to visit us in person at Yonge-Dundas Square, where the show board lists everything on sale at T.O. TIX
How do I buy Tickets?
Traditionally, buying in-person from our friendly and very knowledgeable sales staff has been the only way to purchase tickets through T.O. TIX. Now, as you know, you can also buy tickets online, through www.totix.ca.
